Hebrews 6:2
There is much more that could be spoken of, as there is much in the Scriptures about this subject; a subject which spans both the realm of the children of God and the lost, and which cannot be separated from the judgments on both the lost and the children of God.
There are two resurrections:
Daniel speaks of two, Daniel 12:1-2.
Jesus revealed two, John 5:22-29. The Lord Jesus gives us many details, one of which is that when you speak of resurrection you must also speak of judgment. Here are a list of the main details Jesus delineates.
Vs.22—Jesus Christ Himself is our Judge.
Vs.23—Jesus and His Father are One, You cannot diminish one without diminishing the other. See also 1John 2:22-24; 4:3; 2John 1:9.
Vs.24—Jesus is the ONLY way to the Father and consequently, eternal life. See also John 14:6 and 1John 5:11-13.
Vs.25—The spiritually dead in trespasses and sins (Ephesians 2:1-3) are here spoken of in contrast to those physically dead spoken of in verse 28-29. Therefore, Jesus is speaking of you needing to hear Him.
Vs.26—Jesus Christ is eternal life.
Vs. 27—Your judge is Jesus Christ, the Son of Man, Messiah.
Vs.28-29—There are two bodily resurrections. All will be resurrected, some in the resurrection of damnation and some in the resurrection of life. See also John 11:25.
No soul sleep after physical death or annihilation:
Soul sleep is a cultic teaching not found in the Bible. Simply stated soul sleep is a false teaching that the soul goes to sleep—unconscious—while the body is in the grave. This false teaching is frequently accompanied by another false teaching known as annihilation. Annihilation teaches that the soul is permanently eradicated, and Hell is not eternal suffering, but ceasing to exist. Here are some Scriptures that demonstrate to the contrary to both these false doctrines—2Corinthians 5:8; Luke 16:22-23; Genesis 35:18; and, Revelation 20:13.
Why the resurrection?
First, part of being mankind is possessing a body. Resurrection maintains that. Although the soul lives separated from the body when physical death occurs man was not made to exist that way permanently that way.
Second, regarding the redeemed, they need bodies fit for life in the ‘full’ presence of God. See 1Corinthains 15:50. Regarding the lost, they require bodies fit for the rigors of the eternal lake of fire.
What about the living at the time of the resurrection?
The Bible is quite detailed about what will happen with the redeemed that are living on earth at the time of the resurrection, see 1Corithians 15:51-53 and 1Thessalonians 4:14-17.
Regarding the lost at the time of the resurrection of damnation, see Revelation 20:13-15. If there are any lost living on the earth at this time it is reasonable that they will come into that resurrection similar to the way the living redeemed came to the resurrection of life.
What type is the resurrected body?
Regarding the Redeemed.

Jesus’ resurrected body—John 20:19-20; Luke 24:36-42—is a real physical body although having some differing properties than the original earthly body.
Resurrection and Judgment:
Regarding the Redeemed—
Their resurrection is entitled the Resurrection unto Life—John 5:29.
Their resurrection is described in 1Corithians 15:51-53 and 1Thessalonians 4:14-17.
Their judgment comes after their resurrection and is described in 1Corinthians 10-15 and called the Judgment Seat of Christ, Romans 14:10; 2Corianthians 5:10. It is not a judgment of getting into heaven or not, but of rewards for loving obedient service. The admittance to heaven is by the grace of God only, not by works.
Regarding the Lost—
Their resurrection is entitled the Resurrection unto Damnation—John 5:29.
Their Resurrection and Judgment are described in Revelation 20:11-15. Their judgment is the final presentation of the facts of their guilt for their wicked hearts and works against God and formal pronouncement of sentence to the eternal Lake of Fire.
