The Sin of Fornication

I have been teaching on Thursday evenings in Shelburne (at our church plant) through 1st Corinthians.  We are on chapter 5 and I thought I might post some of the points regarding fornication we have been studying.

ü  Fantasy fornication is sin for married or single persons, Matthew 5:28.

ü  Fornication is adultery for a married person, Matthew 5:32.

ü  Fornication comes from the heart before it manifests itself in the actions, Matthew 15:19.

ü  Fornication is an illegal relation, John 8:41; Exodus 20:14.

ü  Fornication is injurious to the individuals involved and mankind in general, including the institutions of family and government, Romans 1:18-3:10.

ü  Fornicators within a church are to be judged, disciplined, and dismissed if unrepentant, 1Corinthians 5.

ü  Fornicators pollute the entire church, 1Corinthians 5.

ü  A person who continues to live a life of fornication is lost, separated from God by their sin, 1Corinthains 6:9.

ü  Fornication is a sin against God, and unbecoming for those that have been made holy by Christ’s blood, Ephesians 5:3, 5.

ü  God did not design man for multiple “partners,” 1Corinthains 6:13, 18.

ü  If a church member fornicates it involves a bodily and spiritual offence against Christ and the church involved, 1Corinthians 6:13-18.

ü  Fornication not only uses one’s body as the instrument of offence but the body is also that which is being offended (violated), 1Corinthians 6:13-18.

ü  Fornication is a grievous sin from which people must repent, 2Corinthains 12:21.

ü  Fornication is a work of the sinful flesh, Galatians 5:19.

ü  The child of God must die to fornication each and every day, Colossians 3:5.

ü  Sexual intercourse inside of holy matrimony is not fornication, 1Corinthians 7:2; Hebrews 13:4.
